    Paris 2010: Audi quattro concept

  • Sep 30, 2010 from oneighturbo(Beaman) in Lifestyle
oneighturbo The 1980 Geneva Motor Show saw the debut of an automobile, whose name went on to become more than just a symbol for a long line of success by the manufacturer. The quattro from Audi is also the gold standard for the combination of winning motor sport qualities with the utmost in everyday practicality.
In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the debut of the quattro, Audi is presenting a show car at the 2010 Paris Motor Show that moves a futuristic interpretation of this concept into the fast lane: the Audi quattro concept, a thoroughbred driving machine with 300 kW (408 hp), five-cylinder turbocharged engine, a lightweight body and of course the latest generation of quattro permanent all-wheel drive.
The very first glimpse of the new Col de Turini White show car awakens memories of another legendary ancestor: the 1984 Sport quattro, a 306 hp evolutionary stage of the Audi quattro Coup with a shortened wheelbase. In fact, the Audi quattro concept also represents the systematic further development of a production coup using high-performance technology. The foundation is provided by the powerful Audi RS 5, one of the brands sportiest production vehicles ever.
The Audi development engineers shortened the wheelbase by 150 millimeters (5.91 in) and lowered the roofline by around 40 millimeters (1.57 in) compared to the four-seat coup on which it is based. Like its predecessor from 1984, the 2010 show car is now also a two-seater. The heavily modified body is made primarily of aluminum, with the hood, the rear hatch and other components made of carbon.
The low weight of the superstructure leads to significant secondary effects in other components of the vehicle, such as the transmission, the chassis and the brake system. As a result, the Audi quattro concept weighs just 1,300 kilograms (2,866.01 lb), almost exactly the same as the Sport quattro from 1984. This once again moves Audi, the pioneer of lightweight construction, to the head of the pack.
The know-how and technologies of the quattro concept body will characterize Audis entire production model portfolio in the future.
In another move that benefits the vehicles weight, the eight-cylinder engine from the production model has been replaced under the hood by a turbocharged, inline five-cylinder engine that can trace its roots back to another Audi sports car the TT RS. In the Audi quattro concept, the longitudinal FSI turbo produces 300 kW (408 hp) and accelerates the car from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in only 3.9 seconds. Torque is distributed as needed via a six-speed manual transmission.
The Audi quattro concept uses the latest evolutionary stage of the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system to deliver its power to the road. The key innovation, the crown-gear center differential, is compact, lightweight, and can vary the distribution of power between the front and rear axles over a broad range, enabling the quattro drive system to react within milliseconds to coax the maximum of fun and safety out of every last bit of torque.
    Design
Brawny, compact, powerful: The appearance of the Audi quattro concept makes no secret of its potential. Although the genes of the elegant Audi A5 and RS 5 Coups are impossible to overlook, the appearance of the show car is far more aggressive and extroverted. Even the obvious differences between the base model and the evolution are more dramatic than between the Ur-quattro and the Sport quattro in 1984.
The concept cars wheelbase is 150 millimeters (5.91 in) shorter than that of the RS 5. The primary reason for this, of course, was to enhance agility and reduce weight form follows function.
In contrast to Sport quattro, the Audi designers also shortened the rear overhang by a total of 200 millimeters (7.87 in) to maintain the harmony of the basic proportions. Roof height was reduced by 40 millimeters (1.57 in) for this same reason.
With its exterior dimensions (length x width x height) of 4.28 m (14.04 ft) x 1.86 m (6.10 ft) x 1.33 m (4.36 ft) and wheelbase of 2.60 m (8.53 ft), the Audi quattro concept fits neatly into the sports car segment.
The low roof also reduces the height of the greenhouse and thus lowers the vehicles visual center of gravity. The muscular C-pillar is clearly an homage to the design of the Ur-quattro. As with that model, the trademark four rings can be found at the transition to the side of the vehicle, but in this case they are stamped into the sheet metal. Together with the large center-locking, 20-inch wheels in a 7-twin-spoke design, the lines make for extremely dynamic and powerful proportions when viewed from the side.
The wheel wells in the arched fenders are prominently flared another quote from the design language of the Sport quattro. The same applies to the distinctive air outlet on the right side of the hood, which allows the five-cylinder engine to breathe more freely.
A significant feature of the front end is the stark single-frame grille. The elimination of the chrome frame lends...

Carl Erik Rinschs The Gift Wins Cannes Lions Advertising Awards

  • Jun 28, 2010 from orfilms(SlashFilm.com)
orfilms In April, Philips released their collaboration between five filmmakers from Ridley Scott Associates, called Parallel Lines. Scotts commercial division RSA was asked to create a series of short films in a genre of their choice, using the same unifying theme. RSA directors submitted forty-five treatments and Philips selected five it believed were most ground-breaking: Jake Scott, Greg Fay, Johnny Hardstaff, Carl Erik Rinsch, and Hi-Sim.
Carl Erik Rinschs futuristic action thriller short film The Gift was the leader of the pack, spawning a bidding war between several big Hollywood movie studios to turn the short film into a feature. We even broke more information about the project, titled Small, and posted some leaked concept renderings. News broke over the weekend that Rinschs The Gift has won the inaugural Gold Film Craft Lion at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival in Cannes.
Parallel Lines also received a Grand Prix for Direction, marking the second consecutive year a Philips campaign has received the jurys highest accolade, and the first back-to-back awarding of a Lions Grand Prix to a brand.
Read the full press release after the jump.

Rinsch was originally tapped to direct a prequel/remake of Alien, but Fox convinced/pushed Ridley Scott to helm the project himself. Rinschs commercials show an amazing sense of imagination, visual effects artistry and composition (watch them now). Rinsch is developing a remake of Creature From The Black Lagoon and is in preproduction on an epic period samurai film titled 47 Ronin to star Keanu Reeves, also for Universal. 20th Century Fox considered the filmmaker for the Bryan Singer-produced X-Men Origins: First Class, but Carl ultimately lost out to Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn. It was recently announced he will direct a remake of Logans Run for Warner Bros. You can watch a making of featurette on The Gift by clicking here.
    Here is the press release:
PHILIPS SCOOPS ANOTHER GRAND PRIX AT THE CANNES LIONS ADVERTISING AWARDS
Amsterdam, The Netherlands Today, Philips is delighted to announce that its global Parallel Lines campaign for Philips TVs has received the inaugural Gold Film Craft Lion at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival in Cannes. Parallel Lines also received a Grand Prix for Direction, marking the second consecutive year a Philips campaign has received the jurys highest accolade, and the first back-to-back awarding of a Lions Grand Prix to a brand.
The brand-new Film Craft Lion (Special Effects) was awarded for the short film The Gift by Ridley Scott Associates (RSA) director Carl Erik Rinsch. Rinschs science fiction thriller was one of five thematically linked short films commissioned and produced by Philips for its global Parallel Lines campaign, which launched in April of this year. The campaign, created in association with DDB UK and Tribal DDB Amsterdam, challenged directors from RSA to respond to a single dialogue to demonstrate that whatever content is watched, only Philips TVs Ambilight technology, award-winning picture quality and superior sound, can recreate the best cinematic viewing experience at home.
To establish the Film Craft category the jury declared they felt duty bound to recognize something that set the standard for others to follow, and the The Gift was an exceptional example. Rinschs The Gift and the other four short Parallel Lines films are available to watch online at www.philips.com/cinema.
To have been awarded a Grand Prix for the second year in a row is a tremendous honor and recognizes the strength of our partnership with our agencies, as well as how Philips has transformed into a marketing power-house in just a few years time, said Gary Raucher, Vice President and Head of Integrated Marketing Communications at Philips. A few years ago, we wouldnt have been contending at Cannes. Now, Philips campaigns have won a Cannes Lion four years running and have been crowned with two successive Grand Prix awards.
Neil Dawson, Chief Creative Officer, DDB Worldwide added: Im delighted weve won the first Film Craft Grand Prix. Our whole raison detre was to demonstrate Philips credentials in cinematic viewing at home. To prove that we needed to produce content of the highest quality, so this award is extra special for us.
Kai-Lu Hsiung, Managing Director, Ridley Scott Associates (RSA) said: The Parallel Lines brief was exceptional when we received it from DDB, but to now see the fruition of this unique creative process unfold before our eyes, in April when the website went live, to now, receiving this accolade is more than we could hope for. May creativity and clients like Philips flourish as the delivery of brilliant content is surely the future of advertising.
Last year, the International Advertising Festival at Cannes awarded the top prize, the 2009 Film Grand Prix to Philips and Tribal DDB Worldwide for Carousel, created for the debut of Philips Cinema 21:9 television.

Read Castles Twitter Story The Case of the Fallen Angel

  • Sep 19, 2010 from movieviral(MovieViral.com) in *
movieviral This years Comic-Con panel for ABCs hit show Castle revealed a new Twitter narrative titled The Case of the Fallen Angel. The show has been using the Twitter account regularly for title character Richard Castle since the first season, and even had a similar narrative during last years summer break. The third season premieres tomorrow (9/20), and The Case of the Fallen Angel has been solved, so weve decided to combine the multitude of 140 character or less parts of the story into one complete narrative that you can read after the break.

First, a little background. In ABCs Castle, Richard Castle is a detective novelist who shadows NYPD detective Kate Beckett as inspiration for his new series of novels about Nikki Heat, using his knowledge to help solve Becketts real crimes. His first book, Heat Wave, was an instant smash last year, and now hes been procrastinating in writing the follow up, Naked Heat, due out September 28th. As we see in the season 2 finale, Beckett almost tells Castle how she feels about him, but Castles ex wife Gina whisks him away to the Hamptons for the summer to finish Naked Heat. With that all in mind, read how Castle spent his summer (Chapters are by date published on Twitter, editing only done to format, not content).

The Case of the Fallen Angel

    July 25th

Fallen Angel dead on Hamptons beach. Looks like murder. Bet I can crack the case B-4 Hamptons P.D.

Here are the ligature marks. Ready to solve a murder, tweeps?

The squad descends to ogle the Angel and cordon off the crime scene. Good times. Captain Compton is growing a stache. Asked him if it was to make his promotion to Captain believable. Hes cranky today. They wont let me near the body but theyre about to turn him over so we can see who it is. Turns out the angel is Tristan Manx. Who will do Johnny Zs concept boards? Guess he wont be painting Gina after all Too soon? Quoth Compton I dont want you sleuthing around, making trouble, Castle. So Ill just chat with people. Get the whats up on the down low.

    July 26th

Had a dream last night I was flying with black wings. Need to find out why Tristan was wearing them when he died. Stopped by the East Hamptons P.D. H.Q. with two boxes of pastry. Compton said sugaring up the precinct wont buy me any favors. He ate two. Did some detective work (aka eavesdropping). Tristan was at a costume theme party Be What You Wish You Were. Careful what you wish for. Comptons interviewing Tristans fellow partygoers. But hes politely thrown me out. Looks like Im going rogue.

    July 27th

Beautiful day to hit the morgue. Lucky for me Asst. ME Sandras a fan (signed Heat Wave I gave her is on her desk). Might get some intel. Sandra snuck me in to see Tristans body (sans wings). Official cause of death: strangulation. Patterned ligature marks still a mystery. Liked all of your octopus attack, rosary beads, and pearl necklace theories for the cause of the ligature marks. Keep thinking! Tox screen results on Manx: .15 alcohol level. T.O.D. 2:00 am. Diagnosis: Dead drunk. Never saw it coming. Compton snuck up on us and grabbed the file, told me to go home and stop being nosy. Might as well have said Stop stinging scorpion! Sandra will keep me informed if I get her an advance look at Naked Heat. Better finish correcting galleys to make our September deadline. You can get an advance look at the first chapter of Naked Heat too here.

    July 28th

Compton can kick me out, but cant stop me investigating ligature marks. Studded belt? Motorcycle gangster? Fashion Maven? Dolce? Gabbana? Went back through your twitter responses for inspiration and I remembered when Tristans dog Buster bit Fergus at the beach. Busters collar and leash were a matching set. Of studded leather! Shout out to @DJPheonyx @jendfaz @chachahutici @Jane0904 @dmg3d @booknerdgirl @onlyshadow @pencilpanda @dpringle I think you were right! I bet Busters collar matches the pattern on his masters neck. Seems mans best friend turned out to be my best clueto the murder weapon!

    July 29th

Who would strangle someone with their dogs leash? Crazy. Wait! Crazy Bullhorn Guy, Fergus! He hated Tristan and his little dog poo! Asst. ME Sandra called. Loved chapter 1 of Naked Heat. Tristans time of death was between 2-3 AM. Maybe Fergus got fed up and decided to teach Tristan a new tricklike how to play deadfur-ever. Comptons gonna love this! Told Compton my shaggy dog tale. For once he doesnt think Im barking up the wrong tree he likes Fergus as a viable suspect. But he says he still doesnt like me enough to let me observe Fergus The Poop Haters interrogation. What a load of crap! (Pun intended). Reminded Compton hed have spent the summer chasing his tail if I hadnt handed him the murder weapon. He agrees. So I get to sit and stay. Comptons unis found Buster wandering the streets with collar, no leash, combed the scene looking for possible murder weapon. Found it! Theyll test the leash for prints. Hold Fergus until they check his alibi. Says he was at...
