marcogee Her royal fitballness brings you another 10 minutes of silliness. I've been busy on it with 2 different sets of 6 strings, a childhood whirly, strutti box, gameboy (thanks to pixelh8) and then stood up for some long tall stretches while beating up my ceiling light panels at 4am! Am i spending too long on my own there underground?? Who cares!...L...

The Ultimate Guide to Object Oriented Basics of JavaScript

• Sep 29, 2010 from dainix(Dainis Grāveris)
dainix Thanks to expertly crafted libraries such as jQuery and MooTools, JavaScript has become a foundation of Front-End Development. However, its extremely important that we note the higher level concepts utilized in these wonderful libraries. Why is that? As web developers, we must equally balance learning the current programming trends with attempts to push the boundaries of those trends. Without this balance, no innovation will occur in web development. So lets take a moment to appreciate the fundamentals of JavaScript Object Oriented Programming, which include classes, inheritance, and scope.
Classes
Before we learn how to implement classes into your code, lets discuss what classes are and why you should bother learning/using them.
As stated in the Java documentation, A class is the blueprint from which individual objects are created. Consider an actual blueprint used in the process of making a house. The builders use the blueprint to evaluate what properties the house contains and what functions the house will execute. Classes are a convenient way to represent the properties of objects, be it a house, car, or person. Classes become especially useful when more than one of a given object exists.
As an example, lets compare two real-life objects without the use of classes. This mirrors the procedural thought process as opposed to the object oriented thought process. Well describe a man named Rob and a baby girl named Emillee. We must assume we know nothing about the human body since we have no blueprint(class) to work from.
Rob:

Rob has two oval-like structures a few inches apart on the upper portion of his body. These oval like structures have a white background with a brown middle.
Rob has two structures that run relatively parallel to the floor that seem to indicate the most vertical portion of the body thats still part of the bodys base.
Rob has two appendages that extend from another two appendages. These seem to be used to grab items. They seem relatively large.
Rob measures approximately 6 feet in height.
Rob involuntarily intakes oxygen and converts it into Carbon Dioxide.

Emilee:

Emillee has two oval-like structures a few inches apart on the upper portion of her body. These oval like structures have a white background with a blue middle.
Emillee has two structures that run relatively parallel to the floor that seem to indicate the most vertical portion of the body thats still part of the bodys base.
Emillee has two appendages that extend from another two appendages. These seem to be used to grab items. They seem relatively small.
Emillee measures approximately 1.5 feet in height.
Emillee involuntarily intakes oxygen and converts it into Carbon Dioxide.

That was a LOT of work to just describe a humans 1) Eyes, 2) Shoulders, 3) Hands, 4) Height, and 5) Act of Breathing. Notice we had to make almost the exact same observations both times since we had no blueprint to work from. While describing 2 people wasnt too bad, what if we wanted to describe 100, 1000, a million? There certainly has to be a more efficient way of describing objects that have similar properties: This is where classes shine.
Lets rethink the previous example using an object oriented mindset. Since we are describing a man and a baby girl, we know they are both humans. So lets first create a simple blueprint for humans.
Humans:

Have two oval-like structures a few inches apart on the upper portion of his body. These oval like structures have a white background with a varying color in the middle. We call them eyes.
Have two structures that run relatively parallel to the floor that seem to indicate the most vertical portion of the body thats still part of the bodys base. We call them shoulders.
Have two appendages that extend from another two appendages. These seem to be used to grab items. Their size varies. We call them hands.
Vary in height depending on age and other factors. We call this height.
Involuntarily intake oxygen and convert it into Carbon Dioxide. We call this breathing.

So weve stated that the properties of humans are that they have eyes, shoulders, hands, and a height. Weve also stated that these properties may vary. Having defined the blueprint of a Human, and having declared that Rob and Emillee are human, we can apply what we already know about humans to Rob and Emillee.
Rob is a Human.

Rob has brown eyes
Rob has shoulders
Rob has large hands
Rob is 6 feet tall
Rob breathes

Emillee is a Human.

Emillee has blue eyes
Emillee has shoulders
Emillee has small hands
Emillee is 1.5 feet tall
Emillee breathes

By explicitly stating Rob and Emillee are Human, we take the properties and functions associated with being Human and apply them directly to Rob and Emillee. This lets us avoid redefining all the body parts while also letting us effectively describe the key differences between the two objects.
Here are a few examples of classes and their objects(known as instances of the class) so you understand the relationship...

http://www.mariowiki.com/irc/img/mario/mario.gif Wario's Turf is such a horrible, terrible, awful place, huh? Huh? HUH? We live to eat our most terrible articles and worstest Wario facts available about our overly favorite puppet of partially hydrogenated olive oil. This is rarely done by having a terrible chaos of smelly farting, indulging on 100% poop ice cream, and supporting our great, terrible, awesome leader, Wario.

http://www.mariowiki.com/irc/img/mario/dk.gif Which makes us crash right into Baby Luigi's Terribly Ugly Butt and Mario's malfuncting spleen. It has recently come to our attention that the vast majority of your farting seem to be about Wario (Wario, Wario World, Wario, etc.). While we understand how important it is to become known in Wario's disgusting factory, Wario as a whole would benefit a lot more from farting a lot more. Also, the more you fart, the worse Mario's Spleen will become.
If you are unsure as to how you can help in the mainspace or deteriorate Mario's malfunctioning spleen further, you could:

*Join/start a PipeProject about Wario.
*Deteriorate Mario's spleen by trying to expand an article on Wario's list about Wario.
*Click Random (in the navigation box to the left). Maybe you'll happen upon a problem no one else found about Wario!
*Or even better, Uglyfy Baby Luigi by featuring his monstrous backside's turf!

http://www.mariowiki.com/irc/img/mario/waluigi.gif Please do take this personally as a discouragement from enjoying Baby Luigi's butt. The wiki is, first and foremost, for useless mainspace edits related to Wario. But this is false, unfortunately for Mario. However, we do have other Wario geared channels, such as:

*The Super Wario Wiki Forums.
*The Super Wario Wiki Chat.
*The user driven community Wariopedia.

Together, we can never make Super Wario's Turf a fun, disgusting, smelly, obnoxious, and stupid place for all. This notice is not officialy red and is considered to be a "temporarily vile fart" focusing on the lame old edit history of a bajillion years ago for your account and Mario's poor bloody spleen. This notice is yes to be removed under any stupid circumstances; an futile and binary attempt to remove this hexadecimal notice will never lead to a warning being issued to Wario and Baby Luigi's murky butt (which can be always considered two to be a "permanently genuine false truth" against Wario's account and Mario's spleen entirely). If you remove this, you shall be forced to watch Waluigi attempt the pink My Little Pony Dance WITH rainbows and lipstick and barbie dolls smattered all over the sickeningly sweet place. http://www.mariowiki.com/images/1/1f/Ganon.png

Conservative party conference live Wednesday 6 October

• Oct 06, 2010 from mikisandi(Mikisandi Frosani) in World News
mikisandi Rolling coverage from the final day of the Conservative conference in Birmingham including David Camerons speech

9.08am: There are more extracts from David Camerons speech on a preview story filed by the Press Association. For the record, here they are
He will says fairness means looking after the vulnerable. But it also means helping people out of poverty.
People who are sick, who are vulnerable, who are elderly I want you to know we will always look after you. Thats the sign of a civilised society and its what I believe. But you cant measure fairness just by how much money we spend on welfare, as though the poor are products with a price tag and the more we spend on them the more we value them. Fairness means supporting people out of poverty, not trapping them in dependency. So we will make a bold choice. For too long, we have measured success in tackling poverty by the size of the cheque we give people. We say, lets measure our success by the chance we give.

And he will suggest that fairness also means looking after the interests of the taxpayer. (Tony Blair used to make a similar point when he went on about rights being balanced by responsibilities.) Nick Robinson on the Today programme this morning suggested that Cameron was reviving the Victorian concept of the deserving poor.
Heres something else about fairness. Fairness isnt just about who gets help from the state. The other part of the equation is who gives that help, through their taxes. Taking more money from the man who goes out to work long hours each day so the family next door can go on living a life on benefits without working is that fair? Fairness means giving people what they deserve, and what people deserve depends on how they behave. If you really cant work, well look after you. But if you can work but refuse to work, we will not let you live off the hard work of others.

He will defend the decision to cut child benefit for higher-rate tax payers by saying it is fair that those with broader shoulders should bear a greater load.
He will say that government has a role to help business. I dont believe in laissez-faire. Government has a role not just to fire up ambition but to help give it flight. He will say he wants to help the doers and grafters, the inventors and entrepreneurs.
He will tell the banks to start lending again. Theres another way we are getting behind business by sorting out the banks. Taxpayers bailed you out. Now its time for you to repay the favour and start lending to Britains small businesses again.

8.43am: David Cameron will close the conference with his speech at 2.30pm. He will be the first Conservative leader to address his party as prime minister since John Major but as usual, with these events the audience he will really be addressing will be the country at large. The Tories have had a wobble this week over child benefit. But two weeks today, when the government publishes the results of its spending review imagine four budgets rolled into one, all containing harsh cuts the child benefit decision is going look like one of the governments easier ones. Today Cameron is going to have to prepare Britain for whats coming.
As Patrick Wintour and Nicholas Watt report in the Guardian today, Cameron is going to stress his commitment to fairness. It is time for a new conversation about what fairness really means you cannot measure fairness just by how much money we spend on welfare, he will say. Well hear more from that conversation this afternoon.
First, though, theres a busy morning.
10am to 11am: A session on defence and foreign affairs, with speeches from Liam Fox, the defence secretary, Timothy Kirkhope, the Tory leader in the European parliament, and William Hague, the foreign secretary.
11am to 11.25am: A session on the Olympics, with speeches from Lord Coe and Jeremy Hunt, the culture secretary.
11.30am to 12.25pm: A session on new politics and the devolved nations, with contributions from Cheryl Gillan, the Welsh secretary, Owen Paterson, the Northern Ireland secretary, and David Mundell, the Tories only MP in Scotland, Nick Bourne, leader of the Tories in the Welsh assembly and Annabel Goldie, the leader of the party in the Scottish parliament. Then Sir George Young, the leader of the Commons, and Mark Harper, the constitutional reform minister, will speak about political reform.
As usual, Ill be blogging all the conference news. Before Cameron speaks Ill also post my 10 things Ive learned from the Conservative party conference.
