WaterRower Natural Rowing Machine in Ash Wood with S4 Monitor
Sports (WaterRower)
List Price: $1,095.00
an exceptional machine
The waterrower is an excellent machine that is exceptionally designed and provides an outstanding workout. I have owned one for about 10 years, and my wife and I both use it regularly. In the entire time I've owned it, the only parts I've had to replace have been the monitor batteries and the double-sided tape that fastens the monitor wire brackets to the frame. I found the workout it provides to be deceptive at first--until I stood up after using it the first several times, I didn't realize just how intense the workout had been! If you've used other rowing machines, you're in for a treat when you try this one--there is absolutely no shock to the shoulders or arms at the beginning of a stroke (even from rest). The footrest is rock solid and easily adjustable for foot size; the frame is long enough to accommodate very tall rowers (I've had friends up to 6' 4" use it without banging into the stops); the components are rugged and last a long time (at least 10 years so far); and the... 5/5 nucpiper "RNS" (SW Michigan) - See all my reviews This review is from: WaterRower Natural Rowing Machine in Ash Wood with S4 Monitor (Sports) The waterrower is an excellent machine that is exceptionally designed and provides an outstanding workout. I cannot believe no one else has reviewed this yet! I got mine more a year ago. I use it at least once a week (usually 2-3 times). Read online about the benefits of rowing---you get the cardio/aerobic plus the muscle toning, with no joint impact. A very, very nice combination. Despite some folks expressed concerns (at least folks tell me they worry), there are no back issues. This rower looks nice, feels great (love the water resistance!), and gets results. It is elegant and functional. Yes, it is a tad pricey. But hey, if you actually use it, you will get results, it is more than worth it. I live in a traffic congested area (Washington DC) and have no desire to fight traffic to get to the gym. For me, this is a perfect solution. Given the quality of this piece of equipment, I expect to be using it for years! 5/5 Guppee (Northern VA) - See all my reviews This review is from: WaterRower Natural Rowing Machine in Ash Wood with S4 Monitor (Sports) I cannot believe no one else has reviewed this yet! Update - Water rower sent me a new sensor and disk which fixed the computer. It was relatively easy to install. I would like to upgrade my rating to 4. Everyone likes it and uses it. Why not a five? My remaining nits, which really shouldn't discourage people from buying it are:1) The footrests. Yup still catches the shoes, even though I changed to ones with narrower heels. I think they could fix this by angling the edges outwards. A bit more substantive design would also be nice.2) The computer - Its kinda basic. It will count calories per hour as you row, but won't give you a total calorie count. Additionally, I use the rower when watching movies in the dark. It would be great if there were a backlight just to check how you are doing. I use my cellphone light to check.3) I've figured out why the feel of the pull is not perfectly smooth. Basically, there is a wheel where the strap goes around (imagine a ribbon wound around a wheel). Concept2 Model D Indoor Rowing Machine
Sports (Concept2)

Intregal part of my 75 pound weight loss!!!
I own the Concept 2 Model D. I purchased it last year after an exhausting field and internet search. I "casually" used it for several months until a few months ago when I became very serious about losing weight. I now use the rower 5 to 6 times a week 30 minutes minimum- with an average of 45 minutes and occasionally (usually Saturday mornings) a 60 minute workout. I do not overdue the individual workouts, and maintain about a 23 stroke per minute rhythm.I chose this rower for several reasons. First, the great reviews on internet websites. Secondly, I was very impressed with the sales associate. He did not try to "oversell" me, instead he convinced me that for my needs the model D was more than sufficient. Third, I was fortunate enough to try one out at a friends home gym- I was impressed. Lastly- this is a high quality machine- very sturdy and well designed.I utilize this machine, along with a low carb diet and walking 3-4 miles 2 to 3 times a week, to... 5/5 D. You need go no further than a major crew regatta such as the Head of the Charles to understand why Concept2 rowers are regarded as the best available. Generally there are only a few rower manufacturers represented in vendor alley, and the one with the crowd will be Concept2. Found in crew boathouses everywhere, not only are they well-built and smooth, but can even be linked together to work in unison for training purposes. It's actually quite amazing to see in action. Concept2 also has an enormously enthusiastic user base that competes across the world. That's indoor rower competition! You'll also find Concept2 rowers in gyms everywhere - they're very tough.Concept2 makes two models. They are actually fairly close in specs and the pricing difference is a few hundred dollars. This listing is for Concept2's D model with their PM3 electronics module. I view the principal difference between the D and E models as height (the E is a bit taller). I bought a Model D with the PM3 monitor in August, 2009. I have been overweight my entire life and in November of 2008 I finally decided to change my life. I started a new way of eating with Nutrisystem and I started exercising. I bought an elliptical and treadmill to join my stationary bike and started losing weight. As I slowly became more fit, I kept researching other things I could do to keep my interest in exercise going. I'd never seen an indoor rower, but read about them as being terrific exercise in various places. I started looking really hard at them when I realized just how great a workout they offered at a low impact. Concept 2 is considered the standard in rowing machines. I was very pleased with the price point as well. I'd already spent a lot of money on the treadmill and elliptical and didn't want to drop a lot more. One very nice thing about Concept 2 machines is that they hold their value very well. I couldn't find a used Model D in my area on Craigslist,... 5/5 A. The best rowing machine ever!
Through the past several months I have spent a lot of time researching various rowing machines both on the Internet and by visiting various fitness equipment dealerships. I long decided that if there was one piece of fitness equipment I was going to ever buy it was a rowing machine. For years I have been working out on the well-known Concept2 in various local gyms. The Concept2 is a great fitness machine, but I wanted to see if there was something better out there, before throwing $1000+ on this machine. So, I came across the WaterRower, and boy am I glad that I did! Since I have some experience using the Concept2 (lately Model D), I can list some personal impressions about the two machines so you will have some comparison data. First of all though, let me point out that I purchased my rowing machice for home use. I am a fairly fit individual, but not an Olympic athlete. I used to row for USC Crew Team back in 1992, and we used to train on the wind based rowing machines, I don't remember the brands, but they were very basic in comparison to the modern machines with there awesome computers. I've recently tried the Concept 2, and it was great, and seems to be to the standard workout equipment for serious crew members, but it's big and bulky, and not as easy to store, unless you have a dedicated gym room in your home. The WaterRower, on the other hand, is easy to flip up and put in the corner of my bedroom. I roll it out on my balcony in the morning to enjoy the cool breeze while I row. I try to fit my workout in the morning before the baby wakes up, and I have no problem hearing him over the whoosh of the water. The WaterRower S4 computer isn't as feature rich as the PM3/4 on the concept 2, but it has all that I need, since I just like to do basic 10km or 45 min sessions with a heartmonitor. I really do enjoy the sound of the water, it... 5/5 A. Ryan "USC Lonestar" (Redondo Beach, CA USA) - See all my reviews, September 5, 2008Exercise is a pleasure with this machine
The Waterrower is a great way to improve your fitness. At 64 I didn't want to overdo it. I found you can work like crazy or take it easy with this. It's up to you. So I've gradually increased the intensity and duration of my rowing. Within a few weeks, I already feel much stronger and this shows up in my weekly tennis matches. Also shows in my mental fitness. I'm just more "there". Better in conversation, sharper in my thinking. The rowing itself has a mild "swishing" sound that makes it feel you're actually on the water. It's not so loud, so you can watch TV or listen to music as you row. Make sure you get the monitor. The information is valuable and helps keep you motivated. This is just what I was looking for and I would imagine younger guys would just work like hell with this and also benefit. 5/5 Average Joe - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Don't let the title of this review throw you off, it is a pun. Seriously though I am very happy with the purchase of the Seattle Wooden Rower. I shopped around for a water-based rower and choose the Seattle Wooden Rower because of price point and aesthetics. The beech wood goes extremely well in my front room and I consider it part of my furniture collection. I have been rowing on a semi regular basis and find the workout enjoyable and challenging. Basically you set the tempo and push yourself as hard as you want. Rating the whole process with 5 stars being the best; Ease of ordering 5 stars, shipping and delivery 4 stars, set up and instructions 4 ½ (easy), quality of components and material 5 stars, Happiness 5 stars. I have owned several rowing machines in the past and I think I finally found the right one. I recently purchased the Seattle Wooden Rower to compliment my home gym. Basically I was getting tired of my treadmill and elliptical. Historically speaking I am accustom to purchasing exercise equipment on the internet and either receiving something that is very confusing to assemble or broken. I was pleasantly surprised that the instructions included with the Seattle Wooden Rower were complete and easy to understand. It also showed up in excellent condition and required minimal assembly. This rower has been nothing but a pleasure to use and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in rowing or if you are ready to upgrade from an older rowing machine. I have been using this rower since Jan 2011. I have used other rowers in the past, and I thought it was time to go to a rower that had the feel and sound of actually rowing. That has been achieved with the Seattle Wooden Rower. I am not completed satisfied with the product, but for a price of under $800., when the competition is closer to $1200., I feel that I did well. First, the assembly is not as easy as others have described. The "furniture" bolts that are now standard on every u-assemble piece of furniture out there is the main fastener for this product. They are not easy to put in (especially if you have male hands) and some are in very tough places where a tight fit is hard to achieve using a miter wrench. I had to have my daughter put some of them in. Maybe some of the bolts need to be factory-installed. And the belt that attaches to the handles, and runs down the front of the machine, through a pulley, doesn't necessarily give you the impression that it is going to... 4/5 G. Started Good, Now Disappointing, Maybe Dangerous
We just assembled our new Stamina 1215 Orbital Rower. It took about an hour and a half. The machine feels pretty sturdy to me. Is it worth $279? Hard to say, but with everything so overpriced these days, who knows? The acid test is usually how long something lasts, so it will be worth the money if it gives several years of good service. I've done my first half hour of rowing and it's a fairly smooth action and relatively quiet. On some sites, a few people complained that the lowest setting is too tough for beginners, and I agree. But you can set the arms even a little lower than the bottom number, and this helps. I've had two rowing machines in the past and this one is as good or better than they were. I like the ability to set the back of the bar up higher which aids in getting off and on the rower. I was concerned about the 'orbital' action of the arms, but find it's easy to adjust to, and in effect, you can just row as normal and not use the orbital ability at all. I bought this Stamina 1215 rower two weeks ago. After 10 days of use, the rollers that allow the seat to move up and down the frame as one rows collapsed. Naturally I'd already tossed out all the packing materials and the box. Oh, well. What I did was, I transplanted the arms, and the hydraulic resistance units (think cheap shock absorbers) onto a 20-year old Altero rower - the resistance units for that gave up some time ago, and that company is out of business, but now it's back on the road, using the Stamina's resistance units. Compared to this one, that old Altero is built like a tank. This one is, in my estimation, worth maybe $15. Yes, it's less expensive than the similar Kettler, and which now wish I'd sprung for; but it's also not worth the $279 currently being charged for it, in my estimation. All the parts are cheap and designed to be sold, as opposed to having been designed to be used. The "computer" is a cheapie and its little screen is tough to see. Do yourself a favor:... 1/5 J. F. After using this exercise machine for about a month (9 total exercise hours), I have found it is basically a good machine for the price. After 4 hours of use, one of the hydraulic shocks developed a "dead spot" at the start of the stroke. I called the Stamina toll free number for customer support. They sent out a replacement shock which seems to be working OK.The 4 roller wheels on the seat slide are molded plastic. They aren't exactly round so they "rumble" a little bit. It would be nice if they were smooth without mold marks on the running surfaces. 4/5 Sailor Don "Rower man" - See all my reviews This review is from: Stamina 1215 Orbital Rowing Machine with Free Motion Arms (Sports) After using this exercise machine for about a month (9 total exercise hours), I have found it is basically a good machine for the price. The rowing motion is like heaven
I initially tried to order my Kettler Kadett from a company called Mercantila, a.k.a. Rowingmachines.com. It was a complete disaster and nightmare including some false advertising, trying to cover up some mistakes on their part which caused about a month of delays, some horrible customer service (or lack thereof), some false charges, and a lot of headaches. Eventually enough was enough and I wound up ordering it directly from Amazon, which cost me a few bucks more, but was well worth it.The machine comes mostly disassembled and took about an hour and a half to put together. There were a few confusing moments as the instructions are only pictures and no text, so making sure you have the right part takes a little extra focus. It came with all the tools necessary except an allen wrench which was necessary for one small thing. In terms of overall quality, it's very high. I'm not concerned about this thing breaking, nor does it rattle or have ill-fitting parts... 4/5 chris carter (California, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Kettler Kadett Outrigger Style Rower Rowing Machine (Sports) I initially tried to order my Kettler Kadett from a company called Mercantila, a.k.a. The Kettler Kedett rowing machine is an amazing piece of equipment. I unpacked mine last night and despite missing a washer and having to wade through 90 minutes of assembly instructions, I was impressed from the very start. From the solidity and the perfect fit of the parts, it is clear that this machine is the product of German engineering. I haven't seen anything so well designed in years. Each part fits well, tightens nicely and still rotates or slides with ease. The machine is sturdy, sits well on carpet or hard flooring and easily folds into a compact shape when not in use.A workout on the Kadett is better than any workout I've ever experienced, aside from rowing or kayaking. The motion is very realistic, with nothing to distract one beyond the small chirping of the pistons and the occasional knock of the seat against the front of the rail. It is easy to close my eyes and imagine myself rowing down a quiet river. The entire experience is more like... well, after reading that many positive reviews, I decided to buy one.delivery and assembly were flawless. There are some strange things about this piece of equipment, however.1. all the labels on the equipment are in German. Not a problem for me, because I am a German living in the States. Must be strange for locals, though.2. the pulse meter is completely inaccurate. I was rowing like mad to get my pulse into my aerobic zone (130). Once I was exhausted and double-checked with my chest-strap based other pulse-meter, I was already beyond 150, when the Kettler thing still showed only 110. If you don't want to kill yourself, don't use the built-in pulse meter.Besides, I hate having a cable dangling at my ear while rowing.3. at the beginning of my 2nd training session, when I tried to fix my shoes with the 2 tapes which were provided for this purpose, one of the plastic rings broke. It is made of such a cheap material, it... 3/5 Rezensent "Rezensent" - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) WaterRower Oxbridge Rowing Machine in Cherry with S4 Monitor

Perfect Machine
I don't know where to begin. I researched many types of exercise equipment and this one takes the cake. Check the manufacturer's well-built site for all the details on the product. I picked the cherry model for looks, but I'm sure any model would have suited my fitness needs. This rower is rock-solid, whisper quiet, comfortable and beautifully designed. When standing against a wall it looks like a piece of art. But it doesn't stay there long. My wife and I use it everyday. The resistance and motion is so smooth! I can't recommend this machine enough. You can even buy software to race other WaterRowers online. If you are really serious about an aerobic workout, look no further. The WaterRower is worth every penny and built to last. 5/5 J. Grant "yesman" (MD) - See all my reviews, March 28, 2008Amazing Piece of Art, er, Exercise Equipment
Anyone considering this rower should know first and foremost that it is absolutely gorgeous. Beyond that, what really sold me over the Concept 2 is that the layout of the machine is more conducive to rowing while watching tv, for example, nearly silent (great for apartment living), and what you noise you do hear is the gentle whoosh of water swirling.I've never rowed in a scull, but I have to imagine the WaterRower sounds much more realistic than the sawing sound of the Concept 2.Storage is a breeze with the low center of gravity and roller wheels - just lift it up and it takes up about the space of a dining chair. The only potential downside is the computer. The Concept 2 has very accurate drag calculations, etc., that allow you to compare against anybody else's scores in the world. The S4 monitor on the WaterRower, by contrast, is not nearly as sophisticated. It doesn't even tell you total calories burned, which is a bummer. I own 2 rowers in 2 different locations:1st is a Concept 2 (model C - computer upgraded to PM3, handle and seat from D) which is just over 10 years old at my office/shop.2nd is the Water Rower in Cherry which is just over 6 months old at my vacation house (used every weekend).I write this review just having finished rowing on the Water Rower.I purchased both machine new.In the past, I had a "silicon filled piston super heavy duty rowing machine" which just died of many wear and fatigue problems before I purchased the Concept.Either the Concept or Water Rower will do a really good job of lasting and keeping you in shape without killing your body.I ran for many years but it was doing slow damage to my knees so I moved to rowing.I row 3 days on, 1 off unless I get a major workout some other way.I use these machines to keep in shape. Impressive rower
I had two concerns about buying a rowing machine: first that I weigh over the 250 pound limit of most rowers out there, and second that I live in a second story apartment so noise is definitely a factor. I was pleased to find this machine on a good sale, and when it arrived I was able to put it together without much trouble (the instructions weren't the clearest, but it was pretty common sense). After having used it several times now, I can safely say that this rower put all my worries to rest! It is a very sturdy machine, comfortable and easy to use. And the only noise comes from the blades pushing the water, so it is very relaxing and no complaints from the downstairs neighbors. The monitor is easy to read, and as an added perk, it comes with a heart rate chest strap. I used to enjoy rowing at the gym, and now I am excited to have a quality machine in my own home. 5/5 K. Rogers (Indianapolis, IN) - See all my reviews, April 11, 2008Good Rower and Great Company
I am writing my review about 6 months after purchasing this rower. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase, but felt compelled to write my belated review only after experiencing an issue with the equipment and getting great customer service. First of all, I must say that this is one sturdy piece of equipment that is very easy to assemble and set up. I am a novice rower, but quickly learned how to use the equipment and found the workouts to be extremely satisfying. I was amazed at how complete the workout felt after only 15-20 minutes. My only vice is that the display seems a little cheap, but I really only use the timer and HR monitor and they both work just fine.I was gradually working my way up to longer work outs, when I experienced a break in the bungee cord that provides tension on the pulley that collects the row belt. The cord became pinched and ultimately snapped. The company provides a 2 year warranty, so I sent an email on a Sunday afternoon and got an... 5/5 Alan D. Having used the NordicTrack Rowing Machine until it wore out - decided to try the H2O ProRower RX-750. Received and set it up without incident - well packed and easy to follow instructions. They even supplied chlorine tablets, tools and if necessary a plastic shim to align the blades. Unlike most computers, this one has a very large display and is easy to use. Filling the tank was a snap, they provided both a funnel and siphon unit. What a smooth ride - the H20 ProRower is the best IMHO 5/5 aar! "aar!" First Degree Fitness WR-N Neptune Rower

Good for limited space and/or limited budget
Although I previously wrote a very critical review of this product, my subsequent experience with the Neptune Rower requires me to offer a more positive take. I use it every weekday in my pied a terre apartment and have found it reliable and enjoyable. One big advantage of the Neptune is that it's the only water rower I know that can be stored upright in a small amount of floorspace. Wheels make it easy to position. As noted in the earlier review, it was difficult to assemble due to an opening not large enough to accommodate a bolt and the little monitor's annoying beep (which sounds with every stroke) can't be turned off, so you simply have to pull the batteries. But the machine does offer me a good aerobic workout and is very convenient. 4/5 Richard H. Cowan "Green Mountain Guy" (Putney, VT USA) - See all my reviews, September 20, 2009Spend the extra money for the Pacific rower
The overall quality of the Pacific rower, when compared to the Neptune rower, is worth spending the extra $300. They are both manufactured by the same company. Although the Pacific's computer isn't quite on par with the Concept II's I've used in the past, it is a lot better than the Neptune's computer. It provides more information than the one on the Neptune and the method of measuring distance rowed is a lot more accurate as well. I do wish that they had a better mounting location for the computer but it isn't that big of a deal. The seat, handle and foot pads are a lot better than the Neptune's as well and they're are fewer parts to assemble than the Neptune. If your down right on a strict budget, or your just cheap, the Neptune will burn some calories but if you want a better rowing experience and the satisfaction of money well spent upgrade to the Pacific rower; you will be happy that you did!I bought a Neptune rower and the company replaced it with a... 3/5 Marc D. Rower works great, though the assembly requires correction that is not documented in the manual. The magnet under the seat (to work with electronic monitor) was placed on the wrong side, and to correct this requires reassembling the seat and rollers with the spacers on the other side. The magnet was glued on the wrong side, and required some force to loosen. The water resistance works great.
