randallsomer49 I do not recall when I first became fascinated by water rowers, yet these days it does seem to have taken over my entire life. It is perhaps for this reason that if anybody wishes to know about water rowers they come and see me, however it seems as if they constantly ask similar questions. I have decided because of this it may be easier to just write down everything I know here. Please be sure to go through all my articles, and after that for those who have any queries please get in touch.

derekfloyd924 If you talked with my buddies they would most likely tell you I understand an excessive amount about water rowers, however to be truthful they usually appear to be extremely interested. I do however carry on receiving the same questions regarding water rowers from the people who follow me, so I believed it would be quicker to write most the important points down here and save myself from having to repeat my answers again and again. Please be sure to read through all my articles, and after that if you have any queries do get in touch.

I am unable to say for certain when you will come across water rowers, but I can be fairly certain that you’re going to at some point. It’s my strong desire that through my own articles you get a far better comprehension of the subject.

    Concept2

Intregal part of my 75 pound weight loss!!!

I own the Concept 2 Model D. I purchased it last year after an exhausting field and internet search. I "casually" used it for several months until a few months ago when I became very serious about losing weight. I now use the rower 5 to 6 times a week 30 minutes minimum- with an average of 45 minutes and occasionally (usually Saturday mornings) a 60 minute workout. I do not overdue the individual workouts, and maintain about a 23 stroke per minute rhythm.I chose this rower for several reasons. First, the great reviews on internet websites. Secondly, I was very impressed with the sales associate. He did not try to "oversell" me, instead he convinced me that for my needs the model D was more than sufficient. Third, I was fortunate enough to try one out at a friends home gym- I was impressed. Lastly- this is a high quality machine- very sturdy and well designed.I utilize this machine, along with a low carb diet and walking 3-4 miles 2 to 3 times a week, to... 5/5 D. "The Rower"

You need go no further than a major crew regatta such as the Head of the Charles to understand why Concept2 rowers are regarded as the best available. Generally there are only a few rower manufacturers represented in vendor alley, and the one with the crowd will be Concept2. Found in crew boathouses everywhere, not only are they well-built and smooth, but can even be linked together to work in unison for training purposes. It's actually quite amazing to see in action. Concept2 also has an enormously enthusiastic user base that competes across the world. That's indoor rower competition! You'll also find Concept2 rowers in gyms everywhere - they're very tough.Concept2 makes two models. They are actually fairly close in specs and the pricing difference is a few hundred dollars. This listing is for Concept2's D model with their PM3 electronics module. I view the principal difference between the D and E models as height (the E is a bit taller). The E also comes... 5/5 New England Yankee (Northern New England) - See all my reviews, October 17, 2008

One of the best purchases for fitness you can make

I bought a Model D with the PM3 monitor in August, 2009. I have been overweight my entire life and in November of 2008 I finally decided to change my life. I started a new way of eating with Nutrisystem and I started exercising. I bought an elliptical and treadmill to join my stationary bike and started losing weight. As I slowly became more fit, I kept researching other things I could do to keep my interest in exercise going. I'd never seen an indoor rower, but read about them as being terrific exercise in various places. I started looking really hard at them when I realized just how great a workout they offered at a low impact. Concept 2 is considered the standard in rowing machines. I was very pleased with the price point as well. I'd already spent a lot of money on the treadmill and elliptical and didn't want to drop a lot more. One very nice thing about Concept 2 machines is that they hold their value very well. I couldn't find a used Model D in my area on Craigslist,... 5/5 A. The best rowing machine ever!

Through the past several months I have spent a lot of time researching various rowing machines both on the Internet and by visiting various fitness equipment dealerships. I long decided that if there was one piece of fitness equipment I was going to ever buy it was a rowing machine. For years I have been working out on the well-known Concept2 in various local gyms. The Concept2 is a great fitness machine, but I wanted to see if there was something better out there, before throwing $1000+ on this machine. So, I came across the WaterRower, and boy am I glad that I did! Since I have some experience using the Concept2 (lately Model D), I can list some personal impressions about the two machines so you will have some comparison data. First of all though, let me point out that I purchased my rowing machice for home use. I am a fairly fit individual, but not an Olympic athlete. My main desire in purchasing a rowing machine was to loose / maintain weight, maintain cardiovascular fitness and... 5/5 Gabe Bona "Gabe" (Vancouver, BC Canada) - See all my reviews This review is from: WaterRower Club Rowing Machine in Ash Wood with S4 Monitor (Sports) Through the past several months I have spent a lot of time researching various rowing machines both on the Internet and by visiting various fitness equipment dealerships. My favorite piece of workout equipment

I used to row for USC Crew Team back in 1992, and we used to train on the wind based rowing machines, I don't remember the brands, but they were very basic in comparison to the modern machines with there awesome computers. I've recently tried the Concept 2, and it was great, and seems to be to the standard workout equipment for serious crew members, but it's big and bulky, and not as easy to store, unless you have a dedicated gym room in your home. The WaterRower, on the other hand, is easy to flip up and put in the corner of my bedroom. I roll it out on my balcony in the morning to enjoy the cool breeze while I row. I try to fit my workout in the morning before the baby wakes up, and I have no problem hearing him over the whoosh of the water. The WaterRower S4 computer isn't as feature rich as the PM3/4 on the concept 2, but it has all that I need, since I just like to do basic 10km or 45 min sessions with a heartmonitor. I really do enjoy the sound of the water, it... 5/5 A. Ryan "USC Lonestar" (Redondo Beach, CA USA) - See all my reviews, September 5, 2008

Exercise is a pleasure with this machine

The Waterrower is a great way to improve your fitness. At 64 I didn't want to overdo it. I found you can work like crazy or take it easy with this. It's up to you. So I've gradually increased the intensity and duration of my rowing. Within a few weeks, I already feel much stronger and this shows up in my weekly tennis matches. Also shows in my mental fitness. I'm just more "there". Better in conversation, sharper in my thinking. The rowing itself has a mild "swishing" sound that makes it feel you're actually on the water. It's not so loud, so you can watch TV or listen to music as you row. Make sure you get the monitor. The information is valuable and helps keep you motivated. This is just what I was looking for and I would imagine younger guys would just work like hell with this and also benefit. 5/5 Average Joe - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Missed Opportunities

Cass Flynn, after a grueling year of surgeries and rehab, has made it back to top physical condition. She is named an alternate for the 2008 Olympics double scull US Rowing Team. While disappointed she won't be going to Beijing, she continues on the comeback path. Then she gets a call. THE call. There have been injuries in Beijing. Cass is no longer an alternate, she is now an Olympiad. She has a scant few weeks to acclimate herself to the climate, Beijing's choking smog, a new rowing partner, and a new team. One of her new teammates Laura Kelley, is sent to pick her up from the airport, and very nearly leaves her stranded there, getting them off on the wrong foot. Nevertheless, there is something intriguing about Laura.Cass is able to work well with her new rowing partner, Sarah. She begins to believe that she and Sarah have a chance of winning a medal. The more Cass interacts with Laura, the more she's sure Laura has a dark secret that Laura can't seem to overcome. It... 3/5 P. Bigelow (St. Louis, MO) - See all my reviews, December 5, 2011

What a gem. So sorry to see it end.

Books about rowing are rare enough. Books about women rowing or paddling are even rarer. Along with "The Red Rose Crew," "Water's Edge" is a lovely addition to this tiny category. In an unusual and delightful "double funnel" structure, the book begins with the most structured form of rowing, crew, then narrows to individual sports such as racing singles and single kayaking and canoeing, and then widens again to double canoeing and kayaking and finally ends with the "Back River Seven," a group of seven women who canoed one of the most remote rivers in North America, the Back River in the Canadian Arctic. Interestingly, a second layer of structure governs the book, moving from the most controlled settings, regattas, to the wildest, represented by two chapers, one on the Back River Seven and another on Valerie Fons who, with her husband, paddled over 21,000 miles, almost entirely by river, from Canada's Northwest Territories to Cape Horn, at the southern tip of South America... 5/5 Robin Wolfson "Reliza" (Cameron Park, CA USA) - See all my reviews, March 4, 2005

    an exceptional machine

The waterrower is an excellent machine that is exceptionally designed and provides an outstanding workout. I have owned one for about 10 years, and my wife and I both use it regularly. In the entire time I've owned it, the only parts I've had to replace have been the monitor batteries and the double-sided tape that fastens the monitor wire brackets to the frame. I found the workout it provides to be deceptive at first--until I stood up after using it the first several times, I didn't realize just how intense the workout had been! If you've used other rowing machines, you're in for a treat when you try this one--there is absolutely no shock to the shoulders or arms at the beginning of a stroke (even from rest). The footrest is rock solid and easily adjustable for foot size; the frame is long enough to accommodate very tall rowers (I've had friends up to 6' 4" use it without banging into the stops); the components are rugged and last a long time (at least 10 years so far); and the... 5/5 nucpiper "RNS" (SW Michigan) - See all my reviews This review is from: WaterRower Natural Rowing Machine in Ash Wood with S4 Monitor (Sports) The waterrower is an excellent machine that is exceptionally designed and provides an outstanding workout. Wonderful piece of equipment

I cannot believe no one else has reviewed this yet! I got mine more a year ago. I use it at least once a week (usually 2-3 times). Read online about the benefits of rowing---you get the cardio/aerobic plus the muscle toning, with no joint impact. A very, very nice combination. Despite some folks expressed concerns (at least folks tell me they worry), there are no back issues. This rower looks nice, feels great (love the water resistance!), and gets results. It is elegant and functional. Yes, it is a tad pricey. But hey, if you actually use it, you will get results, it is more than worth it. I live in a traffic congested area (Washington DC) and have no desire to fight traffic to get to the gym. For me, this is a perfect solution. Given the quality of this piece of equipment, I expect to be using it for years! 5/5 Guppee (Northern VA) - See all my reviews This review is from: WaterRower Natural Rowing Machine in Ash Wood with S4 Monitor (Sports) I cannot believe no one else has reviewed this yet! Ok but with some reservations, limited comparison w Concept 2

Update - Water rower sent me a new sensor and disk which fixed the computer. It was relatively easy to install. I would like to upgrade my rating to 4. Everyone likes it and uses it. Why not a five? My remaining nits, which really shouldn't discourage people from buying it are:1) The footrests. Yup still catches the shoes, even though I changed to ones with narrower heels. I think they could fix this by angling the edges outwards. A bit more substantive design would also be nice.2) The computer - Its kinda basic. It will count calories per hour as you row, but won't give you a total calorie count. Additionally, I use the rower when watching movies in the dark. It would be great if there were a backlight just to check how you are doing. I use my cellphone light to check.3) I've figured out why the feel of the pull is not perfectly smooth. Basically, there is a wheel where the strap goes around (imagine a ribbon wound around a wheel). as much about self-discovery as about rowing

A book that aspires to describe perfection better start with a sentence that aspires to perfection. This is how Mind Over Water begins: "In the darkness, deep in silence, the lights --- green, red, a few of white --- surge ahead, in the rhythm of breathing."If this were a class, Butler could riff for 10 minutes on that line. For now, let's leave it at this: You're in a long, narrow boat, with a skin that's just one-sixteenth of an inch thick and oars that extend fifteen feet. It's 5:45 a.m. on an October morning in Boston. It's chilly. And you are about to begin a race that is the equivalent of climbing Mt. Everest. On a Tuesday morning. Before work. Just for fun.Okay, Craig Lambert, a veteran oarsman and a stylish writer, is a little bit crazy. Well, so are the best rowers. And so is Harry Parker, the Harvard crew coach whose exploits first got Lambert, a gifted amateur, interested in writing professionally about the sport. You never... 5/5 Jesse Kornbluth "Head Butler" (New York) - See all my reviews, September 25, 2004

Gaack! Just when I'd given up highlighting my books. . .

"Mind Over Water" falls into the category of the memoir, highly personal and considered memories and musings. It's about rowing and, as the subtitle states: "Lessons on Life from the Art of Rowing." If you don't like this kind of book, steer clear. You also won't like "Green Thoughts: A Writer in The Garden." On the other hand, if you do like this kind of book, "Green Thoughts" is also recommended."Mind over Water" is about rowing internalized, what it means to row and race and how these lessons can be applied to life. As such, its primary goal is not so much instruction as translation. And translations, of course, are never exact, which may account for some of the animosity of other reviewers. So what is "Mind Over Water" really about? It's not so much about rowing as it is about what rowing means to the author. As such, you can't really fault it for not being the book you might write about rowing or for not being an instruction manual. It has humbler... 5/5 Robin Wolfson "Reliza" (Cameron Park, CA USA) - See all my reviews, January 30, 2005

    seductive sports saga

I had fun with this book. As a rower who has been on national teams and medaled at the Olympic Games,I resonated with this saga of rowing and what it means to those who do it. Some sports books I have read take the perspective of the outsider, the spectator. In sharp contrast, this one comes from someone who has really "been there," who has experienced training, racing, winning and losing. This is the real thing. The author extrapolates down-to-earth, practical experiences to worldly, spiritual, and even cosmic insights. Highly recommended. 5/5 ciz (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Mind Over Water: Lessons on Life from the Art of Rowing (Paperback) I had fun with this book. Pleasantly Surprised........

I have owned several rowing machines in the past and I think I finally found the right one. I recently purchased the Seattle Wooden Rower to compliment my home gym. Basically I was getting tired of my treadmill and elliptical. Historically speaking I am accustom to purchasing exercise equipment on the internet and either receiving something that is very confusing to assemble or broken. I was pleasantly surprised that the instructions included with the Seattle Wooden Rower were complete and easy to understand. It also showed up in excellent condition and required minimal assembly. This rower has been nothing but a pleasure to use and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in rowing or if you are ready to upgrade from an older rowing machine. As of today, I can give the Seattle Wooden Rower 5 Stars. 5/5 JamesSanMateo - See all my reviews This review is from: H2O Fitness Seattle Wooden Rower WRX-1000 Water Rowing Machine (Sports) I have owned several rowing machines in the past and I think I finally found the right one. Great workout

I have been using this rower since Jan 2011. I have used other rowers in the past, and I thought it was time to go to a rower that had the feel and sound of actually rowing. That has been achieved with the Seattle Wooden Rower. I am not completed satisfied with the product, but for a price of under $800., when the competition is closer to $1200., I feel that I did well. First, the assembly is not as easy as others have described. The "furniture" bolts that are now standard on every u-assemble piece of furniture out there is the main fastener for this product. They are not easy to put in (especially if you have male hands) and some are in very tough places where a tight fit is hard to achieve using a miter wrench. I had to have my daughter put some of them in. Maybe some of the bolts need to be factory-installed. And the belt that attaches to the handles, and runs down the front of the machine, through a pulley, doesn't necessarily give you the impression that it is going to... 4/5 G. Love the RX-950

For the past few months I have been using the ProRower RX-950 at my local Snap Fitness and really like the feel of the water as I row. So, I recently purchased one for myself and could not be happier! It was a pleasant surprise to find a commercial grade rower that was affordable enough for me to purchase for my home. The rower was easy to assemble and came with chlorine tablets for the water. I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this product to a friend. 5/5 Robert Fyall "RobFyall" (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews, September 17, 2008

    Good Rower, Superior Customer Service

I have to start out with acknowledging that I purchased this Rower through an online fitness retailer that was a sub partner to the other massive online product company (M*********).At first my experience was horrendous. The product arrived damaged, late and numerous hardware pieces were missing that were required to put the product together correctly. Needless to say I was furious and disappointed. I contacted the online fitness retailer and demanded a full refund and a return of the product. I wrote a review on that site detailing my experience and it `mysteriously' disappeared after a day or so on the website. When asked about it, the company couldn't determine `why' it disappeared as they state `we accept critical reviews'.I then started searching the web for other experiences like mine. I came here to Amazon as well. I read the reviewer who indicated they contacted the actual manufacturer of this RX-950 product. So I did as well. I updated them as... 4/5 KGregory - See all my reviews This review is from: ProRower H2O RX-950 Club Series Rowing Machine (Sports) I have to start out with acknowledging that I purchased this Rower through an online fitness retailer that was a sub partner to the other massive online product company (M*********).At first my experience was horrendous. Nice HEAVY DUTY machine...

I've been trying for the longest time to find a suitable rowing machine that would support my size and weight (6'1" & 300+ lbs) and kept hitting dead-ends with machines that were too "light weight" or just too expensive... That in itself was frustrating as one would think companies would make "heavy duty" machines to cater to larger people working on getting fit... I looked at everything from "bikes" to "rowers" too, all too wimpy in construct...My Wife actually found this one and after reading various reviews on the net and speaking with a Rep from the company I went forward with my purchase and I must say I couldn't be happier for it... The machine is everything I was looking for and will suit my needs for a long time to come... Set up for me was VERY easy, the only glitch was that some bolts had come loose in transit and were lost out of the carry holes on the box (I'm assuming)... It was nothing that prevented me from being able to set up the rower as it uses... 5/5 M. Orona (Whittier, California United States) - See all my reviews, February 2, 2011
