    Indian Sports

  • Sep 09, 2010 from shivendumadhava(Shivendu Madhava) in *
shivendumadhava The Indians and the Japanese decided to engage in a competitive boat race. Both teams practiced hard and long to reach their peak performance. On the big day they felt ready. The Japanese won by a mile.
Afterward, the India team was discouraged by the loss. Morale sagged. Corporate management decided that the reason for the crushing defeat had to be found, so a consulting firm was hired to investigate the problem and recommended corrective action. The consultants finding:
The Japanese team had eight people rowing and one person steering; the Indian team had one person rowing and eight people steering.
After a year of study and millions spent analyzing the problem, the consultant firm concluded that too many people were steering and not enough were rowing on the Indian team.
So as race day neared again the following year, the Indian teams management structure was completely reorganized. The new structure: four steering managers, three area steering managers and a new performance review system for the person rowing the boat to provide work incentive.
The next year, the Japanese won by two miles.
Humiliated, the indian corporation laid off the rower for poor performance and gave the managers a bonus for discovering the problem.

US Rowing Team Member Robbed, World Rowing Championships 2010

  • Nov 09, 2010 from E2NZ in World News
E2NZ The United States rowing team has just had an unpleasant brush with New Zealands spiralling crime problem.
On Saturday a member of the team had a number of personal items stolen after the World Rowing Championships at *Lake Karapiro.
A Police press released managed to turn what couldve been a PR clunker into a gold medal news story for the police (and New Zealand) when they apprehended the young burglars responsible and returned the stolen goods to the rower just minutes before he left the country:
After speaking to management at the teams hotel, police trac

rugbyleaguehq THE Kangaroos are staring down the barrel of a props crisis for the Anzac Test, with the front row the main problem area of the six spots up for grabs for the clash with New Zealand at Eden Park.

Injuries to front-rowers Matt Scott and David Shillington - coupled with a long lay-off for Keith Galloway and the uncertainty over the representative status of Petero Civoniceva - are the main headaches for selectors.

Shillington (stomach) and Scott (foot) were the starting props in Australia's Four Nations victory last year. Shillington is due to return for Canberra against the Warriors today but

HCI Fitness Sprint Outrigger Scull Rowing Machine Reviews By Customers
I am very happy with the swift delivery and excellent condition in which the product presented. It now resides in front of my TV for nightly (or rainy day) workouts.
Great design and function. Not so good quality. Christopher R. Stevenson Cedar City, UTMy purchase was based on several great reviews and a fair price for the rower. It is the perfect size for an average room, easy to use and a very solid machine. However, after the first use, one of the hydraulic shafts (that sets the amount of resistance) began to fail. So, the resistance setting on that rowing arm needs to be reset after only a dozen pulls. I contacted HCI fitness and their affiliates to get a replacement part There were none and/or they were less than willing to help after several attempts. I still cant find a replacement part anywhere. Too bad. Overall the unit would be great, but based on this failed part and total lack of help getting a replacement part from the manufacturer or distributor, I DO NOT recommend this product.

The Honeymoon Is Over Laserwolf IowaPLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE REVIEW. I BOUGHT THIS MACHINE JUST OVER A YEAR AGO. THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY.
Ive had this HCI rower for just over a year and at first it was great. Shipping, assembly, and use was a breeze and I used it 5 days a week for a solid yearright up until about the 6 month mark when one of the oars broke off. Not at a weld, not at a joint or hinge, but right in the middle. It just broke off in my hand. So being the self reliant type I took it to a friend and we welded it back on and it was fine againright up until the frame broke. Its hard to explain what it looked like, but long story short the main beam of the machine pretty much peeled away from the front supports. So, since its no longer under warranty I carried it down the stairs and on my way to the dumpster decided to put it in the garage until I figured out what to do with it even though I know its useless.
Please dont mistake this for a completely negative review of the machine. Its a good machine at a good price for someone who is looking to get started with a fitness program. If you are looking for a long term heavy duty piece of equipment this may not be the machine for you. Ill always be glad I bought this machine because it was my gateway into taking better care of myselfbut if I had it to do over again Id have dropped a few extra bucks on something that would last.
Other issues with the machine. The counter/computer seems to be alright, but the calorie meter is just about useless. I have a hard time believing that 100 strokes at a low setting and 100 strokes at a high setting burns the same number of calories.
Also, during periods of extended rowing the pistons get very hot causing the oil inside to expand and this restricts the amount of travel in the oars which makes it very hard to use proper form.
The rubber grips like to twist off, but a little duct tape fixed that.
At the pivot point of each oar some kind of powdery substance (I think a rubber bushing)is ground up a tiny bit at a time as you row and over time it will...

Sequencing of actions affects force production for ergometer rowing

This increased energy expenditure for ergometer-based rowing resulted in lower maximum stroke rates. ... arms move out of the sagital plane during a rowing stroke, it is not surprising that this was a source of problems in his analysis.

Publisher: ProQuest

About this book
Six experienced, male college rowers were recruited and performed two different catch techniques on an instrumented rowing ergometer: one with elbows straight throughout the catch and early drive phase, and one in which the elbows flexed throughout the drive. Data collected included force data from a transducer-equipped rowing machine, elbow and knee 3-D joint angles, and EMG for muscle timing. Four dependent measures were calculated from the data: average work per stroke, percent of work done in the first ⅓ of the drive, average peak force per stroke, and average time to ½ peak force per stroke.

Good machine, but I got a dud.

I got my Favorit about 5 days after I ordered it and when I went to put it together I realized that a piece was missing (the bar to hold the foot pedals on). So I called customer service and they sent me one free of charge the next day. I was a little disappointed because I was excited to use it but couldn't without something to put my feet on. So I waited another 5 or so days and I got that part. After using it I realized the right shock absorber wasn't working correctly, and it started losing more pressure within a few day to where it was unusable. I emailed customer service this time and they sent me a new shock right away.Since then I haven't had any problems, the machine works great and I've been using it about 3 weeks daily with the new shock. The customer service was really great, which is why I decided not to take off a star. I think I might have gotten a returned machine. It was obviously a dud either way, everything else about the experience was... 5/5 L P - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Well built with one major flaw...

This rower seems to be well built and very sturdy. However, buyer beware, the design of this machine contains one major, VERY IMPORTANT flaw having to do with the resistance adjustment. The resistance is controlled by tightening knobs on the side of the machine at the bottom of each individual piston. Loosen the knob and you are able to move the bottom of the piston up (to increase the resistance) or down (to decrease the resistance). Regardless of how much I tighten each knob the resistance always loosens up during my workout. Sometimes one side will come loose before the other, producing an uneven workout. Eventually both sides loosen and the workout is much too easy.Which begs the question... Why didn't Kettler catch this problem during the testing phase of this product? I am extremely disappointed and would not recommend this product until Kettler comes out with a fix or different design with respect to the resistance adjustment. 2/5 Mike S. Best in its class

Had no problem putting it together and have found no problem with the tightness of tension adjusting on the "oars" mentioned by previous reviewer - if anything they are very hard to release to slide up or down. So if sharing this machine with a different build quick adjustment day-to-day would be hard as you have to pry the plastic apart with a screwdriver. However still a vast improvement on my previous machine of 20 years.Shipping was a problem as the cardboard box and packing not heavy enough for the usual drop off but it survived even that! 5/5 Steven Medway (USA) - See all my reviews, February 28, 2008

    an exceptional machine

The waterrower is an excellent machine that is exceptionally designed and provides an outstanding workout. I have owned one for about 10 years, and my wife and I both use it regularly. In the entire time I've owned it, the only parts I've had to replace have been the monitor batteries and the double-sided tape that fastens the monitor wire brackets to the frame. I found the workout it provides to be deceptive at first--until I stood up after using it the first several times, I didn't realize just how intense the workout had been! If you've used other rowing machines, you're in for a treat when you try this one--there is absolutely no shock to the shoulders or arms at the beginning of a stroke (even from rest). The footrest is rock solid and easily adjustable for foot size; the frame is long enough to accommodate very tall rowers (I've had friends up to 6' 4" use it without banging into the stops); the components are rugged and last a long time (at least 10 years so far); and the... 5/5 nucpiper "RNS" (SW Michigan) - See all my reviews This review is from: WaterRower Natural Rowing Machine in Ash Wood with S4 Monitor (Sports) The waterrower is an excellent machine that is exceptionally designed and provides an outstanding workout. Wonderful piece of equipment

I cannot believe no one else has reviewed this yet! I got mine more a year ago. I use it at least once a week (usually 2-3 times). Read online about the benefits of rowing---you get the cardio/aerobic plus the muscle toning, with no joint impact. A very, very nice combination. Despite some folks expressed concerns (at least folks tell me they worry), there are no back issues. This rower looks nice, feels great (love the water resistance!), and gets results. It is elegant and functional. Yes, it is a tad pricey. But hey, if you actually use it, you will get results, it is more than worth it. I live in a traffic congested area (Washington DC) and have no desire to fight traffic to get to the gym. For me, this is a perfect solution. Given the quality of this piece of equipment, I expect to be using it for years! 5/5 Guppee (Northern VA) - See all my reviews This review is from: WaterRower Natural Rowing Machine in Ash Wood with S4 Monitor (Sports) I cannot believe no one else has reviewed this yet! Ok but with some reservations, limited comparison w Concept 2

Update - Water rower sent me a new sensor and disk which fixed the computer. It was relatively easy to install. I would like to upgrade my rating to 4. Everyone likes it and uses it. Why not a five? My remaining nits, which really shouldn't discourage people from buying it are:1) The footrests. Yup still catches the shoes, even though I changed to ones with narrower heels. I think they could fix this by angling the edges outwards. A bit more substantive design would also be nice.2) The computer - Its kinda basic. It will count calories per hour as you row, but won't give you a total calorie count. Additionally, I use the rower when watching movies in the dark. It would be great if there were a backlight just to check how you are doing. I use my cellphone light to check.3) I've figured out why the feel of the pull is not perfectly smooth. Basically, there is a wheel where the strap goes around (imagine a ribbon wound around a wheel).
