Good for limited space and/or limited budget

Although I previously wrote a very critical review of this product, my subsequent experience with the Neptune Rower requires me to offer a more positive take. I use it every weekday in my pied a terre apartment and have found it reliable and enjoyable. One big advantage of the Neptune is that it's the only water rower I know that can be stored upright in a small amount of floorspace. Wheels make it easy to position. As noted in the earlier review, it was difficult to assemble due to an opening not large enough to accommodate a bolt and the little monitor's annoying beep (which sounds with every stroke) can't be turned off, so you simply have to pull the batteries. But the machine does offer me a good aerobic workout and is very convenient. 4/5 Richard H. Cowan "Green Mountain Guy" (Putney, VT USA) - See all my reviews, September 20, 2009

Spend the extra money for the Pacific rower

The overall quality of the Pacific rower, when compared to the Neptune rower, is worth spending the extra $300. They are both manufactured by the same company. Although the Pacific's computer isn't quite on par with the Concept II's I've used in the past, it is a lot better than the Neptune's computer. It provides more information than the one on the Neptune and the method of measuring distance rowed is a lot more accurate as well. I do wish that they had a better mounting location for the computer but it isn't that big of a deal. The seat, handle and foot pads are a lot better than the Neptune's as well and they're are fewer parts to assemble than the Neptune. If your down right on a strict budget, or your just cheap, the Neptune will burn some calories but if you want a better rowing experience and the satisfaction of money well spent upgrade to the Pacific rower; you will be happy that you did!I bought a Neptune rower and the company replaced it with a... 3/5 Marc D. good product though requires tweaking

Rower works great, though the assembly requires correction that is not documented in the manual. The magnet under the seat (to work with electronic monitor) was placed on the wrong side, and to correct this requires reassembling the seat and rollers with the spacers on the other side. The magnet was glued on the wrong side, and required some force to loosen. The water resistance works great. Quiet (only hear water swooshing noise) and smooth resistance. 4/5 tool timer - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Not what I expected

I bought this to get a more "whole body" workout while doing interval training than I got on a stationary bike and with less impact than a treadmill. It was well built and operated very smoothly. There seemed to be very little difference in resistance between max and min, and I could never get my heart rate where I wanted while trying to do interval training. My legs never felt like enough resistance and my arms and shoulders tired too quickly. It wouold probably be a good choice for steady state aerobics but it did not work for me for interval training. I returned it and bought an elliptical exerciser. For what it's worth, I'm mid 60's. 3/5 J. Romain "retiree wannabe" (California) - See all my reviews, February 7, 2012

    Great Diversion

Almost like being on the water, without the smell, bugs, and drunken boaters. All in all a pleasant way to get your exercise in. Makes a great footstool as well. Looks good in the house. Now if they would just fix it so you could put fish in the tank............. 5/5 blueotter14 - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Rowing machine

Was easy to assemble and is easy to use. The sound of water makes me think I am on the lake and the resistance gets harder the more I push. I love this rower and it gives me a great workout. It takes a lot normally to make me sweat and make my muscles ache, and the Pacific Rower did it! 5/5 Maren Augero (USA) - See all my reviews, May 11, 2010

    Excellent so far!

After a little over a month, so far so good! Arrived 1 week early - always a bonus. Very easy to set up if you follow the instructions and don't assume you just know how to do it.Motion is smooth and comfortable - what noise there is is just the sound of water. I have no problem hearing the tv whilst using this (and no, I don't have to turn up the volume). The first week was a real eye opener as to how out of shape I was - the rower really gets the heart pounding. After a little over a month of use (6 days a week) I've increased the amount of time I can row by over 500%, I have way more energy and I'm starting to lose weight. Very glad I decided to take the plunge and buy what for me is a very expensive piece of equipment. 5/5 W. Shaw - See all my reviews, May 26, 2011
