    Great rower

I bought a used rower years ago and came to work it several times a week. I'm a busy person, so I don't have time for a sophisticated work out routine. I just want to work one machine for both strength and aerobic training. Rowing is great for this purpose. When I broke my rower, I started shopping. Unfortunately, even used rowers are over $100. I struggled with this model versus the smaller ones that stand up vertically for easy storage. I couldn't find any reviews on this that addressed the storage question. Finally, I chose it because it didn't look like I could break it from normal usage, whereas the kind that fold nicely seem flimsy.Pros:- This machine is very sturdy. It's solid, stable, and does not rock at all when in use.- It is amazingly quiet. The only sound is the whisper of the pistons. I can use it with the TV on normal volume.- The seat is very comfortable. I sat on it for 30 minutes the first time with no... 4/5 David Applegate (Ohio) - See all my reviews, February 18, 2006

    Compact, Solid, Easy to Assemble

Probably one of the best rowers I've ever used.It was easy to assembly, and looks and feels really solid.Lots of adjustment in the "power level" - from really easy to really hard.I'm 6' and it is definitely large enough (will easily work for taller people as well). My wife is 5'3", and she finds it easy to use too.Highly recommended. 5/5 Bruce Warne - See all my reviews This review is from: Stamina 1205 Precision Rower (Sports) Probably one of the best rowers I've ever used.It was easy to assembly, and looks and feels really solid.Lots of adjustment in the "power level" - from really easy to really hard.I'm 6' and it is definitely large enough (will easily work for taller people as well). Stamina Rowing Machine

I had one of these similar many years ago and let it go at a garage sale. Dumb idea! As I get older, this Stamina machine has replaced it and is giving me all the exercise I need. Good to set in front of the tv and row for 30 minutes, I've gone from a size 40 to a size 36 waist. I like the hydraulic part of it and the adjustability. 4/5 Ronald E. Intregal part of my 75 pound weight loss!!!

I own the Concept 2 Model D. I purchased it last year after an exhausting field and internet search. I "casually" used it for several months until a few months ago when I became very serious about losing weight. I now use the rower 5 to 6 times a week 30 minutes minimum- with an average of 45 minutes and occasionally (usually Saturday mornings) a 60 minute workout. I do not overdue the individual workouts, and maintain about a 23 stroke per minute rhythm.I chose this rower for several reasons. First, the great reviews on internet websites. Secondly, I was very impressed with the sales associate. He did not try to "oversell" me, instead he convinced me that for my needs the model D was more than sufficient. Third, I was fortunate enough to try one out at a friends home gym- I was impressed. Lastly- this is a high quality machine- very sturdy and well designed.I utilize this machine, along with a low carb diet and walking 3-4 miles 2 to 3 times a week, to... 5/5 D. "The Rower"

You need go no further than a major crew regatta such as the Head of the Charles to understand why Concept2 rowers are regarded as the best available. Generally there are only a few rower manufacturers represented in vendor alley, and the one with the crowd will be Concept2. Found in crew boathouses everywhere, not only are they well-built and smooth, but can even be linked together to work in unison for training purposes. It's actually quite amazing to see in action. Concept2 also has an enormously enthusiastic user base that competes across the world. That's indoor rower competition! You'll also find Concept2 rowers in gyms everywhere - they're very tough.Concept2 makes two models. They are actually fairly close in specs and the pricing difference is a few hundred dollars. This listing is for Concept2's D model with their PM3 electronics module. I view the principal difference between the D and E models as height (the E is a bit taller). The E also comes... 5/5 New England Yankee (Northern New England) - See all my reviews, October 17, 2008

One of the best purchases for fitness you can make

I bought a Model D with the PM3 monitor in August, 2009. I have been overweight my entire life and in November of 2008 I finally decided to change my life. I started a new way of eating with Nutrisystem and I started exercising. I bought an elliptical and treadmill to join my stationary bike and started losing weight. As I slowly became more fit, I kept researching other things I could do to keep my interest in exercise going. I'd never seen an indoor rower, but read about them as being terrific exercise in various places. I started looking really hard at them when I realized just how great a workout they offered at a low impact. Concept 2 is considered the standard in rowing machines. I was very pleased with the price point as well. I'd already spent a lot of money on the treadmill and elliptical and didn't want to drop a lot more. One very nice thing about Concept 2 machines is that they hold their value very well. I couldn't find a used Model D in my area on Craigslist,... 5/5 A. A Great Rower

I ride dirt bikes, and this machine offers the perfect workout for the areas I need help with most. Shoulders, Back and Arms. Some people say the legs get a good workout as well, but I would say that is not the case. Very little benefit to the legs, but it is easy on the knees.Overall the Concept2 Model E is a great machine. I am glad I chose this over the Model D just for the higher stance, PM4 and maintenace free (except for oil) chain. The machine came delivered in two boxes, both of which were pretty beat up when they arrived, but nothing was damaged.Putting the machine together took me about 30 minutes, and the instructions were OK. For the money I paid for this machine, I was hoping for a little bit better overall quality. Some of the screws did not line up really well with some of the holes for assembly. I may have even stripped one trying to get it in there, but it seems to be holding on ok. Also there is more plastic than I thought there would have... 4/5 J. Best rower in the world

I have owned two Concept 2 rowers, the Model C and now the Model E. I donated the Model C to my parents when I "ascended" up to the Model E. Without doubt, Concept 2 has produced the world's best rower. It's built to last a lifetime of private use. And if parts are ever an issue, Concept 2 still has parts (quite cheap) for all their rowers, even the Model A! If you seriously plan to row for exercise or sport, the Model E (or any model, for that matter) will be your best investment. 5/5 Randall J. Best Investment in Aerobic fitness

I have had the Concept2 model C for over 6 years and still use it 3 to 4 times a week. My company recently got the model D in the office gym and it does have some improvements. Most noticeably the machine is a bit quieter and the electronics are more advanced (although, as has always been the case with concept2 rowers, the electronics can be upgraded to the latest for a reasonable fee). While I don't see a need to run out and upgrade my home machine I do think the new model is an improvement. In addition to being a great product, it is backed by a great company. They go out of their way to make rowing safe, and fun, with informative newsletters, regular chalenges and competitions, excellent support, online rowing logs, rankings, and races. 5/5 0, April 10, 2004

good bike, wish i had known

I bought this bike for my 4 1/2 yr old son for this coming easter. He hasn't seen it yet ( the easter bunny will be delivering it) but I already know he will love it. the assembly was relatively easy, and didn't require all the tools the instructions/box indicated. My only dislike thusfar is the fact that nowhere in the listing/specs/details online was it listed that this bike contains lead. It wasn't until fedex delivered it that I saw a big warning on the package "WARNING: CONTAINS LEAD" I find it a bit disconcerting that this was not mentioned anywhere and no one had brought it up in previous reviews. We live in an old house and my son has already had elevated lead levels so it is a concern for me, I figure other parents would like to know about this as well. 4/5 S. Decent Bike for the price, but there were some defects

We purchased this bike for my five year old son for his birthday. We were unable to find a Spiderman bike at any of our local stores, so we decided to make an online purchase. The price was very low, and we received free shipping which was great! The bike arrived quickly, even though we had chosen super-shaver shipping. There were some issues with the bike. Once the bike was put together and our son tried to ride it, we realized the front and back wheel were badly warped. So much so, that the rear wheel rubbed against the brake very badly to the point that my son couldn't pedal the bike. We were pretty disappointed to say the least. However we called the warranty number in the booklet that came with the bike. I was told how to submit my request for new wheels by e-mail, and did so. We received the two new wheels within days of my e-mail request and were able to put them on his bike. The new wheels are great, and we are having no more problems with them. I'm not sure if... 4/5 A. Strader (Greensboro, NC United States) - See all my reviews, March 17, 2007

    ok for the price

Took a bit to assemble and my son kept disconnecting the brake wires.. but he was only three at the time.. He also struggled with it as it is quite heavy but ultimately got the hang of it.Now he is almost 4 (and the size of the average 5.5 years old) and we bike regularly but on a flat safe surface so he almost never needs to use the brakes. The only real problem we have is with the pedals. Every now and then I will be biking with them and one of them will become unscrewed and will fall off. This is easily fixed by screwing the pedals back but is a little scary. i can imagine this being a real problem if we were biking fast and or going on a hill. 3/5 Alex Cortez - See all my reviews This review is from: Spider-Man Bike (16-Inch Wheels) (Sports) Took a bit to assemble and my son kept disconnecting the brake wires.. but he was only three at the time.. I wanted to like it but it's poorly designed

If you've ever rowed before, this product is not for you. It's probably better to use the ones at the gym or splurge on a decent one for the home. I really tried to like this but knew right away I'd never use it.It was crazy easy to put together, solid (not cheap-y), all the pieces were there, and the instructions were great.BUT the slide bar part is so short that it stops you short of a full forward movement to the catch. I'm 5'9" and I could have used at least another foot at the front to get a full movement up to the catch. Put another way, you know how on the gym machines you have to really slide forward and *reach* to grab the handle bars before you start? On this machine, the handle bar holder (and, thus, the full distance that you're allowed) is exactly at my natural starting arm-length.I wanted to like the hydraulic resistance too since it's so quiet (it really is), but it felt uneven throughout the stroke (especially the last 2-3 inches)... 2/5 SW (Minnesota) - See all my reviews This review is from: Avari Fitness Single Action Rower (Misc.) Avoid this rowing machine

When I purchased this rower, I knew I would not be getting a gym-quality product at this price. I was happy when I took it out of the box: it had some obviously cheap components but seemed pretty sturdy overall. Assembly was straight-forward.At first, rowing with this machine was not bad. Not perfect, but again, this is an entry level rower.Unfortunately, within the first few hours of use, everything became very wobbly and then the wheels literally fell off. I called the manufacturer and they sent me new parts, but the undercarriage wheels broke again a short time later.Obviously, I am very disappointed in this product. Please do yourself a favor and do not buy it. It is cheaply made. I went to junior high school with Fred Tokars and to senior high school with Sara Ambrusko in Amherst, NY. I knew Fred slightly better however it was only an occasional conversation usually about music. He hung out with a different crowd of friends than I. I do however, remember him as a bit arrogant and somewhat of a "know it all" who would talk to you when he needed information about something. At other times he could walk right by you like he didn't know you. So, the personality traits were already in motion. Sara, on the other hand, was very kind and had a very sweet personality. Somehow I could not really see them together. I guess that Fred did a good job of "putting on a different face" when they dated. After I read about what had happened I was in shock. However, when I started to think about it and especially after I read the book, I could definately see how it happened. I did not know Fred's mother Phyllis but get the impression that she felt her son could do no wrong and... 4/5 Nancy L. Nelson (Branford, CT) - See all my reviews, April 25, 2005

Murder in Atlanta's Night Club Set

There is a certain type of true crime book that spends a great deal of space making the victim look perfect so the villain looks even blacker. I think this is a ploy that shortchanges the victim and the readers. The author spends so much time telling us how perfect the victim was that she seems more a plaster csst than a real woman who suffered and died. There was potentially a very powerful story there: the struggle of the family's quest for vengeance (sort of an Old Testament eye for an eye thing) against the defense team who was trying to save the accused from the death penalty with equal passion. Of course the author spends too much time beatifying one side and demonizing the other to write a really good book. I found myself feeling somewhat queasy about some of the actions on both sides. And as someone else complained, there's no explantion as to how these people arrived at the place that led to the tragedy. Finally, I would like someone to tell me that the title... 3/5 Sires (Appalachians) - See all my reviews This review is from: Secrets Never Lie: The Death of Sara Tokars--A Southern Tragedy of Money, Murder, and Innocence Betrayed (Mass Market Paperback) There is a certain type of true crime book that spends a great deal of space making the victim look perfect so the villain looks even blacker. It could have been a contender

While fairly well written, this book would have benefited immensely from more objectivity and less creativity. I was annoyed by all the colorful and descriptive adjectives the author kept using and would have appreciated more of the objectivity reporters such as she are supposed to have. Just a straight-forward telling of the story would have been better. Where is a good copy editor when you need one? 3/5 A. Creech (Rogers, Ar United States) - See all my reviews, July 17, 2000

    Does exactly what is advertised

I wanted to get a good quality row machine. I've owned Body-Solid equipment in the past and love their "Lifetime Warranty". The box is rather heavy, but not so bad that you can't move it by yourself. Free shipping on an item like this, plus the 40% off makes it a steal. The instructions to assemble this are terrible. They give you two sheets to make sure you received all the parts, then another sheet just showing a full overview of how things go together. No words. I've put things like this together before, so no big deal for me, but for someone inexperienced, it may be a small challenge. It'll take about an hour to assemble. The quality of the machine is what I expected. It'll hold up for several years. Then once/if any of the parts start to wear out, just call up Body-Solid and order replacement parts....LIFETIME WARRANTY!!!I was able to do my first workout on the machine the same day I put it together. I was sore the next day...it works... 5/5 Jeff True (Lexington, KY United States) - See all my reviews, April 18, 2011

The package arrived quickly. A few days before estimated as usual but the package was in rough shape. When we opened this box it was apparent that someone else had thrown the pieces back and returned it - any parts that were strapped to the box had been cut. There were no instructions nor any package with the nuts and bolts. Very disheartening because it was a present for xmas. We wrapped it up (it weighted over 90 bls so it was not easy to handle) and sent it back and got an exchange (reluctantly hoping for another carton that was not used.) We opened the seconed carton which also looked like it had been tampered with, however, all the parts were there and we managed to put the Body Solid together. 1/5 Christine E. Great Bike!

The bike was easy to put together and the parts gave the feeling of good quality. It is incorrectly stated in the product info that the tires are 28 inches....they are in fact 29. The bike feels light for it's size. The handle bar is nice and big and has a cool tapered style. Nice grips. It sits high so no need for fooling around with a stem raiser. I'm 6 feet tall and 200 pounds.....finally feel like I have a bike that is the right size for me. Plenty of clearance between your feet and the front tire as you turn. The front shock is excellent and very smooth....the bike bounces over potholes nicely. I don't miss the rear shock. Love the lever shifters....the rear derailleur is heavy duty.....the gears feel much different than 26". I've been on 5 rides from about 5-10 miles....half city and half trails....where I used to cruise in 13th speed, I tend to do about 11th speed on this bike. I'm adjusting to using lower gears since gear for gear, it takes more torque with the 29" tires as... 5/5 Wesley C. Honeycutt "Wes" (Iowa) - See all my reviews, October 7, 2010

    A-Plus

Upon receipt of my new bike, I was excited. when i removed it from the box and assembled the wheel and handle bars, I noticed an extra piece in the box. The kickstand had been sheered off somewhere along the way. I contacted Amazon and we worked out so I could order a new kickstand and I have enjoyed my bike ever since. Thanks Amazon, another quality product. 5/5 Thom McFarland (Ashland, KY) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Warning: Not a real trail bike.

So i bought this bike for trail riding, the first day i took it out on the trail the rims bent from the stress at the trail. so i took it to my local bike shop to get it fixed. they told me the rims on the bike were cheap chinese parts that werent made for the trail. so i bought a new rim which cost me 170 almost as much as the bike cost, then another part broke the bike seat bent and was un fixable. The bike mechanics/mountain bikes said this was not made for the trail at all. the gears and shifters were alright shift pretty nice actually. and the tires are decent, the handle grips suck though. if you are a seroius trail rider buy a bike that is atleast 500$ i am now getting a real trail bike the "Cannondale trail sl 5 29er" which is way better quality and made for real trails 1/5 troy - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This is the best book so far about rowing, period.

This book is the best source of information to increase boat speed.Xeno Mullerwww.gorow.comOlympic Medalist, men's single scull rowing. 5/5 Xeno Muller - See all my reviews, January 14, 2005

extremely informative, but not for beginners

Unfortunately, I just returned this book because I didn't find it very useful to me personally. Despite what that says about me as a rower, I feel that the description of the book "great for beginners to the elite" is a bit misleading. While the book addresses some issues with beginners, it's really talking to beginners [who will eventually become elite rowers].The book reads a lot like a physics or math book. It has a ton of charts, graphs, and things dealing with physical fitness that you wouldn't know unless you saw a specialist to have testing done. It's a very dry read but makes for a good reference book. Many of the authors talk about "the ideal" rower, being so-many feet tall with 6% bodyfat, along with other ideals. While this is fine, the bulk of the text has an undertone that suggests "if you don't meet these ideals, you're going to suck at rowing." The book often refers to your first "years of training" as if you're wasting your time if you're... 4/5 Alan Everett Michael (Maryville, Tennessee United States) - See all my reviews, July 15, 2008

    Amazing

This book is not for novices, it's for the already advanced rower, who wants to significantly improve their speed, and technique. It goes into complete detail on every major subject pretaining to rowing, from race prep. months in advance, to the race itself, this book covers it all. 5/5 0, April 14, 2007
